Woman dies after Springbok RWC parade accident. SA Rugby has sent their condolences to the family of the student who lost her life a week after the Springbok Trophy Tour in East London.

The Springboks embarked on a city-to-city tour after reclaiming the World Cup title for a fourth time.

Minentle Noqhamka’s leg had to be amputated more than a week after it was crushed by a police vehicle during the rush to usher Springbok players away from the City Hall in East London.

President, Mr Mark Alexander said: “SA Rugby is deeply saddened by news of a tragic incident during the festivities celebrating South Africa’s 2023 World Cup victory tour.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Minentle Noqhamka’s family and friends after her life was so abruptly cut short by this terrible accident.

“The Trophy Tour celebration was to share the joy of success and victory to have it end in sorrow for this family is awful. We share the family’s grief.”

Media  previously reported that a police Nyala drove over the Walter Sisulu University student’s leg as Public Order Police were trying to move Bok captain Siya Kolisi and his team out of the hall’s gates on 5 November.
