Why Somizi will lose his assets?
Media personality Somizi Mhlongo is making headlines for the wrong reasons once again. This time, his former employees have taken his company, Search Light Pty Ltd, to the CCMA after alleging that they were unfairly dismissed in April 2025.
A CCMA enforcement order instructs the sheriff to seize and auction off movable assets belonging to Somizi Mhlongo’s company, Search Light (Pty) Ltd, to satisfy unpaid staff salaries totaling R165,402.62 plus interest. The company supplied cleaners at Transnet’s Carlton Centre but allegedly failed to pay wages for April, May, and June after workers were dismissed without notice. A CCMA ruling in the workers’ favor was ignored, so on 23 June the sheriff received authority to confiscate and sell property to ensure compensation is paid
The unpaid wages stem from a CCMA arbitration decision, and this enforcement action is now underway to collect the funds for affected staff.
Somizi accused of unfair dismissal
Speaking to the news publication, the employees claimed that they were unfairly dismissed from the company. They allegedly did not receive any warning, nor were they called for an official hearing prior to getting dismissed.
