Scholar Transport Vehicle Catches Fire in Vosloorus. Early this morning, a scholar transport kombi caught fire in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni. Two pupils, aged 6 and 10, and the driver escaped safely with no injuries.
The fire, believed to be caused by a mechanical or electrical fault, fully engulfed the vehicle.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and provided support to the shaken children and driver.
The vehicle was badly damaged, and the scene has been handed over to the Ekurhuleni Metro Police for investigation.
City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters received a well alight vehicle fire call at 06H03, in Vosloorus Extension 7. Inyetsane Street is the exact point of an incident.
On arrival, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames and fortunately, both children and the driver managed to get out of the vehicle with no injuries.
It is alleged that the fire started due to mechanical/ electrical fault from the engine compartment.
The two terrified children aged ten and six, both from one family and their driver, were given counseling on scene by firefighters, and their parents were also called immediately to the incident scene.
Fire was extinguished though the vehicle is extensively damaged by blaze.
Scene was handed over to the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officers for investigations and scene rehabilitation.
Scholar transport up in flames, pupils survived.
