Reeva family advocate reacts to Oscar Pistorius news. This, after she laid to rest her husband Barry – Reeva’s father – last month.
On Monday, 9 October, the Constitutional Court confirmed Pistorius’s claims that he has been eligible for parole since March 2023.
The announcement was made via the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).
REEVA’S MOM STILL MOURNING AMID OSCAR PISTORIUS NEWS
Speaking to The South African, Reeva Steenkamp family advocate Tania Koen reacted to the ConCourt ruling.
She said: “We didnt oppose as we were of the view that Oscar Pistorius was eligible to be considered earlier this year. So the decision was expected”.
Koen added the news would likely be difficult to digest for Reeva’s mother, who had recently lost her husband, Barry.
She added: “June is still in mourning.”

‘THREAT TO SOCIETY’
In July, Reeva Steenkamp’s mother appeared on an episode of Australia’s Insights actuality series titled “Seeking Justice”.
In it, June discussed how Oscar Pistorius “refused” to see her when she attempted to confront him over what transpired a decade ago.
She also claimed that Oscar is not deserving of an early release.
She said: “I feel that he is not rehabilitated. His problem is his temper. He might hurt someone else if he comes out”.
