Former Soccer Star Eating From Bins. Former Sundowns midfielder Khayelihle Shozi now living in the streets and eating from dustbins

He had one of the brightest stars as a young footballer. He showed great potential after graduating through the Sundowns Academy and began training with the first team under the direction of Pitso Mosimane.

But Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Ts Galaxy midfilder Khayelihle’s Shozi’s star has dimmed after he was spotted roaming the streets homeless, not having bathed in months, and going through the dustbins looking for food.

Who is Sundowns midfielder Khayelihle Shozi

Shozi has graduated through the academy at Sundowns and began training with the first team under the direction of Pitso Mosimane and his technical team during the 2015/16 season.

The player was brought to Sundowns by Mabhuti Khenyeza, in 2010. Khenyeza was playing for the Chloorkop outfit at the time. The experienced Golden Arrows striker had Shozi playing for his own club, Rockers FC, before taking him to Sundowns.

The attacking midfielder is a talented player that has an eye for goal. He has been part of the SA U23 team under Owen da Gama.

A FALLEN STAR

The rising star’s life took a turn for the worst in 2022 when he went missing twice from his club. The first time, he was found and given counselling. The second time, after spending weeks looking for him, his family located him and he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. He received help and his family thought they had dealt with his mental issues. Sundowns committed itself to intervene in his struggles with mental health.

ROAMING THE STREETS

Khayelihle (28) was recently spotted again back in the streets. The family spokesperson Simphiwe Shozi tells ZiMoja that it pains the family to see him in that state. “We have tried our level best to help. We will not give up,” he says. “It breaks our hearts to see him in this state. We are still trying to get him help where we can.”
