South African celebrity sangoma and reality TV personality Gogo Maweni is once again in the spotlight — but this time, for more than just her spiritual work and television appearances. The star, whose real name is Makhotso Lee-Anne Mofokeng, is set to make a court appearance at the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto on October 22.
The well-known traditional healer faces a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, stemming from an alleged incident that took place on December 18, 2019.
The case was previously postponed to October 15 to allow Gogo Maweni time to give birth to her twins and recover from her pregnancy. The hearing has now officially been rescheduled for next week.
Despite the looming legal proceedings, Gogo Maweni has continued to stay focused on her career and personal life. The 39-year-old mother of five has made it clear that the court case will not define her, nor will it stop her from pursuing her dreams.

“People can expect me to do what I do. This year, because of my pregnancy, there will be fewer traditional things, because when you’re pregnant, there are certain things you can’t do,” she explained.
The reality star is known for her strong personality, spiritual insight, and unapologetic approach to life. Her new show aims to bring her followers closer to her personal experiences, struggles, and triumphs.
This pregnancy has been particularly meaningful for Gogo Maweni. She openly shared that she suffered a miscarriage in the past due to overworking. This time, she decided to take a step back from some of her demanding spiritual work to prioritize her health and her family.
“Last year I had a miscarriage because I didn’t want to stop working and I continued as normal. So this year, when we found out we were pregnant, I decided to take a back seat and put my pregnancy first,” she said.
Her openness about her journey has resonated with many fans, especially women who face similar pressures to balance work, family, and personal well-being.
Gogo Maweni, who shares her twins with her husband Sabelo, welcomed the pregnancy shortly after their traditional wedding in August 2024. For the couple, this chapter represents growth, love, and building a solid foundation for their family.
“Being pregnant this year is something I know he wanted. Besides doing this for our marriage and building our family, I felt this was more important to me,” she shared.
