Ntando Duma’s Painful Childhood Confession: “My Father Burned Us Inside A Shack”.

South African actress Ntando Duma has opened up about one of the darkest periods of her childhood — life with her abusive father.

Speaking candidly on the L-Tido Podcast on 20 August 2025, the Shaka iLembe star revealed that her father vanished from her life when she was just three years old, leaving behind only memories of violence, alcoholism, and trauma.

“The memory I have of my dad was when he burned us inside a shack while we were sleeping,” she recalled. “He was abusive. He would beat my mom, and when we cried, he would beat us too.”

Raised by her mother and grandmother alongside her sisters, Ntando shared that her father’s alcoholism influenced her choice to stay away from alcohol completely: “I’ve never touched alcohol in my life because of him.”

Now a mother of two, Ntando admitted that speaking about her past has not been easy, but she feels it’s important to share her truth. Parts of her journey will also be documented in her upcoming memoir.

Fans React With Love and Support

Following the emotional interview, fans flooded social media with heartfelt messages:

  • “I’m so sorry you had to go through that.”
