RAF to Compensate Families of Zimbabwean Victims in Limpopo Bus Crash

The South African Road Accident Fund (RAF) has confirmed that it will provide financial compensation to the families of Zimbabwean nationals who died in the tragic Limpopo bus crash near Louis Trichardt.

RAF spokesperson McIntosh Polela told SABC News that, according to the Constitution and a 2022 High Court ruling, the fund must compensate all victims of road accidents — including foreigners and undocumented migrants.

The deadly crash, which occurred on October 12, 2025, claimed 43 lives and has sparked heated public debate.

Many South Africans have expressed frustration, saying they wait years for payouts while the RAF continues to pay foreign claimants.

In the 2024/25 financial year, the RAF reportedly paid R546 million to non-South African claimants — a figure that continues to fuel discussions about the balance between constitutional obligations and national priorities.
