Resident Burn Expired Food From Pakistani Spaza Shops
Amid the growing concern over the proliferation of expired and counterfeit food items, locals in Johannesburg took matters into their own hands to address the issue.
They recently stormed a Spaza store owned by a Pakistani national and confiscated a range of expired food items, including maize meal, juice, rice, and sugar. In a collective act, they tore open the packets, scattered the products, and poured them out before discarding them. Some even used garden tools to puncture bags of maize meal.
This incident follows a separate development where authorities exposed two Bangladeshi-owned factories producing fake products in Swaneville, Johannesburg.
