South Africa’s social media timelines have been abuzz following the emergence of a viral video involving 20-year-old Lerato Molwelang, whose name quickly rose to national attention after footage featuring her began circulating on adult websites.

According to information shared publicly and interviews conducted by local online commentators, Molwelang reportedly connected with a male adult content creator through Tinder. What began as a casual interaction allegedly evolved into discussions around modelling opportunities and financial compensation. Molwelang has since stated that she believed she was attending an informal interview and photoshoot, not fully understanding how the recorded content would ultimately be used.

She claims that, motivated by the promised payment, she signed a contract without carefully reviewing its terms. Molwelang further alleges that she felt uncomfortable once recording began but was reassured that the footage was merely for “documentation purposes.” It was only later, she says, that she discovered the content had been uploaded to adult platforms.

When she reportedly requested that the video be removed, she was informed that the agreement she signed granted permission for publication. With the material already widely shared, Molwelang has since chosen to take control of the narrative, publicly acknowledging the situation and announcing plans to formally enter the adult content industry on her own terms.

The video’s wider exposure is believed to have been driven by shares on social media platforms, particularly Facebook, where it was reposted by popular entertainment and gossip pages. Reactions online have been sharply divided, with some expressing concern over potential manipulation and consent, while others argue that contractual responsibility rests with all parties involved.

The incident has reignited discussions around informed consent, contract literacy, and the risks young people face when engaging in online side hustles or informal modelling arrangements without legal guidance
