WATCH: Nobuntu Mkhize discusses her dismissal from the SABC. Former SABC brand manager Nobuntu Mkhize opens up about her dismissal after going viral for her comments on FlySafair flight.

Former SABC brand manager Nobuntu Mkhize has discussed her dismissal from the organisation after she was filmed hurling racist comments and verbally and physically attacking cabin crew on a FlySafair flight in December 2024.

‘THE SABC FIRED ME WITHOUT AN INVESTIGATION’
Nobuntu Mkhize revealed to Newzroom Afrika this week that the SABC fired her without an investigation or a phone call.

“They (SABC) have fired me. They have fired me without doing an investigation. They have fired me without even giving me a phone call. That is why I am saying I am appalled because the SABC, their code of conduct is approved by the board,” she said.

“The board reports to the Cabinet. The Cabinet reports to the president. So, how dare they do this which is very unethical, it’s not even according to the Labour Relations Act. I’m appalled. They released a statement saying ‘yes I’m their employee’, they wanted to talk me. They’ve never even given me a call to today,” adds Mkhize.

Mkhize has opened up about her departure from the from the organisation, the derogatory comments she made about the coloured community, her alleged legal action against the South African Police Service (Saps) and FlysSafair.

The SABC’s head of communications Mmoni Ngubane told The Citizen on Saturday, 15 March it had noted Mkhize’s latest interview.

“We wish to clarify that the corporation conducted a formal disciplinary hearing, presided over by an independent chairperson, with Ms Mkhize in attendance and legally represented.”

“The outcome of this process was officially communicated to her. As a matter of principle, the SABC does not publicly disclose details of internal disciplinary proceedings,” Ngubane said.

Mkhize has reportedly also apologised to the coloured community and said the way she behaved was not how she was raised.
